Been listening to Joni Mitchell as I’m packing my house up. Even though it’s about Woodstock, I found some of these lyrics really lovely and pertinent:
I came upon a child of god
He was walkin along the road
And I asked him, where are you going?
And this he told me:
I’m goin on down to Yasgurs farm
I’m goin to join in a rock n roll band
I’m goin to camp out on the land
I’m goin to try and get my soul free
We are stardust
We are golden
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the gardenThen can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
And I feel to be a cog in something turning
Well maybe it’s just the time of year
Or maybe it’s the time of man
I don’t know who l am
But you know life is for learning
We are stardust
We are golden
And weve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

pack pack pack, all day long,
pack pack pack, while i sing that song,
gonna pack that case, gonna make it light
gonna leave my porn, for my mom to find
Every time I travel, Joni’s ‘California’ ends up in my head.
